1-day itinerary, no car needed
One day in Bucegi without a car
You don't need to rent a car to see the best of Bucegi. Many guests do this as a full day while staying with us: breakfast at our restaurant, the cable car and the plateau, then dinner before you head home or catch your onward train.
Breakfast at Complex Caraiman
Our restaurant serves breakfast from 07:00 to 10:30. Eat well before you go, the plateau has nowhere reliable to buy food.
Catch an early train from Bucharest instead
The journey from Gara de Nord to Bușteni takes about 2 hours. An early train buys you the most daylight and the shortest cable car queues.
Walk to the cable car
About 900 m, 10 minutes on foot from the hotel, past the town center. Buy your ticket and check the board for wind-related delays before queueing.
Up to the plateau, around 2,200 m
The ride takes about fifteen minutes and climbs past the cliffs above Bușteni. Bring a windproof jacket regardless of the weather down in town.
The Sphinx, Babele and the Heroes' Cross
All reachable on foot from the upper station on mostly flat ground, no technical hiking required. Budget two to three hours to see all three without rushing.
Cable car back down
Check the last departure time before you go up, it is earlier than you might expect, especially in winter. Missing it means a long walk down.
Dinner at Complex Caraiman before you go
Our restaurant is open until 22:00, two minutes from the station. A proper meal before the train back to Bucharest, or before heading home if you drove.
Worth knowing
Before you go
The cable car is sensitive to wind and can close with little notice, even on a clear day in the valley. Have a backup plan, such as the easier walk to Urlătoarea Waterfall instead, in case it is not running. Check the current schedule and conditions before you commit your one day to this plan.
Stay with us the night before
Two minutes from the station, with breakfast and dinner both available on site, so the whole day above fits around your stay.
